Flow Computer for Quantum/Unity Processors: Certified for Custody Transfer by Industry Canada

ProSoft Technology’s in-rack Flow Computer (PTQ-AFC) for Schneider Electric’s Quantum/Unity platform is now certified for custody transfer due to its accuracy in calculations and measures. In an industry where prices are high and where the slightest variance in accuracy can significantly affect the bottom line, this certification assures end users that the PTQ-AFC flow computer is capable of the challenge. The module, which complies with AGA 3, 7, and 8 measurement standards, operates with a precision keen enough to use when establishing prices for the gas being measured. Additionally, the PTQ-AFC module supports 16 meter runs, another means for better facilitating custody transfer of products between two parties and line balance for pipeline leak detection.

Modbus Communication Module for ControlLogix

Modbus Communication Module for ControlLogix with Easy Add On Instructions for RSLogix 5000 Version 16  ProSoft Technology’s Modbus Communication Modules (MCMs) provide a fast and easy way to connect Modbus networks and devices to the ControlLogix system. Now implementation of these modules is made even easier with ProSoft Technology’s new add on instructions which condense 31 rungs of ladder logic contained in 6 ladder files into one add on instruction which can be imported directly into RSLogix 5000 Version 16. Previously configuration files had to be manually keyed or copied into RSLogix, thus opening the door for mistake. This feature saves the user valuable time at set-up and nearly eliminates the room for human error. For current users of the MVI56-MCM module the new configuration software can be downloaded directly from its product pages on the ProSoft Technology website ( www.prosoft-technology.com ). ProSoft Technology’s Modbus Communication Modules are ideal for SCADA and field devices supporting Modbus including transmitters, drives, flow meters, and CCS connectivity. Modbus Communication Modules have two independently configured Modbus serial ports that can operate as Master and/or Slave with multidrop support, each supporting RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485.

PROFIBUS DP Master for Quantum

PROFIBUS DP Master for Quantum with Hot Standby and FDT/DTM technology   ProSoft Technology’s PROFIBUS DPV1 Master Modules (PTQ-PDPMV1) are able to access field data from up to 125 PROFIBUS DP slaves directly over the backplane. Now with its latest enhancements the module introduces users to an even wider range of benefits the added security and reliability of Hot Standby functionality and the interoperability from Field Device Tool (FDT) and Device Type Manager (DTM) technology.  The PTQ-PDPMV1 module with Hot Standby functionality allows a PROFIBUS network to be controlled by two Schneider Electric (Model SE 140 671 CPU) Quantum/Unity processors. The redundancy creates a backup so that should the primary power source fail the secondary module will switch into primary mode in under 300 miliseconds, making the module ideal for applications where it is crucial to eliminate the risk of downtime.  Per Carl Henning of Profibus Trade Organization, “We’ve had big segment growth due mainly to Profibus’ strengths in factory automation, safety applications, drives and motion control. These applications use PLCs and ProSoft’s ability to add Hot Standby (or automation failover) capability is an additional feature that will be helpful in these and other applications.”  Another recent upgrade to the module was the addition of the support for independent Field Device Tool (FDT) and Device Type Manager (DTM) technology. FDT provides a standardized interface between systems and field devices, simplifying configuration, and assisting in asset management.

IEC Solutions

ProSoft Technology offers a full range of protocol connectivity modules and stand-alone gateways for IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-103 and IEC 60870-5-104 protocols. The IEC 60870-5 protocol was designed for Telecontrol/SCADA applications, where controllers (PLCs, variable speed drives, etc.) and their relative devices (sensors, transmitters, motors, field instruments, etc.) are distributed in large areas, making these modules the ideal solution for many applications where IEC 60870-5 connectivity needs to be added to an existing network. Typical applications for this protocol include power distribution, water treatment, and lighting systems for highways.   Originally developed for the Power Utility industry, the IEC 60870-5 protocols are very similar in function to DNP 3.0.  The protocols are capable of acting as a Master or Slave and offer “Report by Exception” functionality and dating of events (time stamping).   Report by Exception allows slave units the possibility to “respond without having been requested.” In a classical master/slave scheme, a master polls the slaves one after the other, according to a previously defined sequence or according to specific needs. With IEC 60870-5, slaves also have the possibility to initiate the transaction should a variable change.  Dating events with time tags allows the user to trace the first default appearing in cascade and is crucial in applications requiring real-time data.

Other features include:
•User definable memory usage
•Configuration accomplished with user generated text file that is downloaded to the module
•Protocol implementation conforms to the IEC60870-5 specification and parameters are fully configurable by the user

Flow Computers

ProSoft Technology Offers In-Rack Liquid and Gas Flow Computers for Rockwell Automation® and Schneider Electric Platforms   ProSoft Technology’s Flow Computers (AFC) allow integrated process control and Flow Computer capabilities in a single-slot, in-rack solution for Rockwell Automation’s ControlLogix®, SLCTM, CompactLogixTM, and PLC® platforms and for Schneider Electric’s Quantum/Unity processor. These unique modules offer unprecedented communication flexibility between the Flow Computer and Modbus devices, which is critical for pump stations and process plants. Integration of the Flow Computer is a cost-effective communication solution that ensures overall production efficiency.  According to Craig Resnick, Research Director at ARC Advisory Group, "ProSoft Technology’s AFC Flow Computers fully leverage the trend of utilizing the higher processing power available today in PLCs, which offer a programming environment that supports development of complex algorithms and drives PLC use into many traditional process applications.  End users are able to achieve lower system costs as PLC solutions typically provide a favorable price position versus potential alternative solutions with no compromise in reliability or durability."

General features include:
• Seamless data exchange between processor and AFC module with backplane compatibility
• Detailed characterization method for AGA 8 pressure/temperature compensation
• PLC/FC/RTU integrated data base
• User friendly Windows-based system configuration
• Data archiving and event logging
• Field programmable

ProSoft’s AFC modules measure hydrocarbon gases using the AGA 3, 7, 8 measurement standards, and API 2540 for hydrocarbon liquid flow measurement, greatly facilitating the custody transfer of products between two parties and line balance for pipeline leak detection. The three built-in Modbus ports provide on-line configuration access, allowing the user complete configuration access to the data table. One Modbus port can be configured as a Master providing a Modbus interface to gas chromatographs for gas analysis or any other Modbus Slave devices.

The AFC Manager is a user-friendly, Windows-based software which is easily configured to meet individual needs. Operator data is displayed in user-selected engineering units and is designed to cope with exceptionally demanding regimes.

To obtain its process inputs for the calculations, the AFC modules use the process data collected by processor analog I/O modules.  The processor is responsible for transferring this data to the AFC module, which then calculates flow rates, accumulated volumes and accumulated mass.  The results of the calculations are transferred back to the processor for use in the application ladder logic, or for transfer to a SCADA host.  Event Log Reporting for all Security Sensitive Configuration data (e.g. Orifice Diameter) are Date and Time stamped and mapped to the local Modbus memory map.  This data can be imported into any Spread Sheet program and saved to disk or printed as hard copy.

The module is available for the following platforms:
ControlLogix (MVI56-AFC) -- supports 16 meter runs
SLC 500 (MVI46-AFC) -- supports 8 meter runs
PLC5 (MVI71-AFC) -- supports 8 meter runs
CompactLogix (MVI69-AFC) – supports 8 meter runs
Quantum/Unity (PTQ-AFC) – supports 16 meter runs
